The following is the full text of the message issued on September 22, 2016 by Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, on the occasion of Sacred Defense Week and Martyrs and Veterans Commemoration Day.
The message was read out by Hujjatul-Islam wal Muslimeen Shahidi Mahallati, the Supreme Leader’s representative in the Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs, at ceremonies in the martyrs section of Behesht-e Zahra cemetery, Tehran.
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
We thank Glorious and Merciful God for manifesting the lofty meaning and content of martyrdom in our own era and for making pure and enlightened hearts attracted to it. These shining lights have illuminated the environment of life with their spirituality.
Perceptive eyes and vigilant hearts benefit from it and thus spiritual provision – which is the source of movement towards the new Islamic civilization – increases on a daily basis and life is given fresh impetus.
Greetings of God and His saints be upon these shining souls whose life and death are a source of elevating the Islamic community.
And so shall it be forever, God willing.
