In a meeting with the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution said this evening that the relations between Iran and Syria have been uniquely firm and continuous during the past 30 years. He commemorated the late Syrian President Hafez al-Assad and stressed: "The good relations between the two countries should continue faster than the past."
His Eminence described the political relations between Iran and Syria as excellent and expressed his satisfaction with the improving economic and technical cooperation between the two countries. He added that there are good capacities to further expand this cooperation.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution reiterated: "There are no two other countries in the region that have enjoyed such firm and excellent bilateral relations for thirty years. Therefore, it is necessary to make the best of this experience."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that America is the main opponent of the axis of resistance in the region. Referring to the efforts by American officials to break this resistance, he stated: "These efforts will not achieve any results, just as they did not in the past."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution stressed the importance of regional cooperation between friendly countries and expressed hope that all Iraqi groups will continue constructing their country, solving the problems of their people and forcing out the foreigners through relying on the votes of the Iraqi people and through cooperation and unity.
In this meeting, which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President Bashar al-Assad described the relations between Iran and Syria as exemplary and stressed: "Syria and the Islamic Republic of Iran are in the same camp and have the same goals."
President al-Assad added that Iran and Syria will continue cooperating in all fields. "And each day we will be witness to more achievements in the region."
