Leader Meets Guyanese President

 Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution met this afternoon with Bharrat Jagdeo the President of Guyana and his accompanying delegation. His Eminence referred to Guyana's independent foreign policies and reiterated: "The dominance of powerful countries and the domineering powers as well as dividing the countries of the world into dominant and dominated countries is the greatest oppression towards the global community. It is due to this reason that the Islamic Republic of Iran has always been opposed to global hegemony."

Ayatollah Khamenei said that all the countries which are against domination and resist being dominated by other countries are friends of the Islamic Republic.

Ayatollah Khamenei referred to the dominance of the US and western countries over Latin American countries during the past years and stated that the people of Latin American countries have awakened and that they are after politicians who believe in national independence. He added that the results of the elections held in Latin American countries during the recent years are a testimony to this awakening.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution further referred to the areas of commercial and industrial cooperation between the two countries and said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to share its experience with its friendly countries.

His Eminence said that the membership of Guyana in the Organization of the Islamic Conference is another area of cooperation between the two countries.

Ayatollah Khamenei also expressed his sorrow over the Haiti earthquake and sympathized with the grief-stricken people of Haiti.

In this meeting, which was also attended by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the President of Guyana welcomed Iran's presence in Latin America and the Caribbean region. He said: "Despite its proximity to America, Guyana adopts independent policies, and we are ready to make use of the experience of the Islamic Republic in different fields."
