Young Inventors Meet the Leader

A group of young Iranian inventors and innovators who had won prizes and medals at the 33rd International Exhibition of Inventions, New Techniques and Products in Switzerland met the Grand Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Tuesday, April 19.

More than 700 inventors and innovators from 42 countries had presented around a thousand inventions at the exhibition, which took place in Palexpo, Geneva from April 6-10. The Iranian inventors were awarded 15 gold medals, 26 silver medals and seven bronze medals as well as four special prizes of the exhibition.

In an address to the audience, the Leader expressed pleasure over his meeting with the talented youngsters who have brought honor to the Islamic Republic. He stressed that such gifted and brilliant youngsters and such remarkable talents belong to the great Iranian nation and are part of the glorious historical identity of Iran.

Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the oppression and injustice done to the Iranian people, especially young generation, for several decades before the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

He further stated, "Today, thanks to the Islamic Revolution, ground has been prepared in this country for the fulfillment of the potential of our young people and the flourishing of their talents. Besides, the patronage and guidance extended by government organizations and other related institutions have played an effective role in promoting the creativity, inventiveness and scientific accomplishments of our talented youngsters."

Elsewhere in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic described the boosting of the spirit of hope, research and inquest as among the main factors contributing to the success of young people.

"Efforts should be made to further strengthen self-confidence and the belief that 'we can' among young people. The negative attitude and wrong belief that 'Iranians are incapable' is a lethal poison which should be seriously avoided," the Leader told the audience.

Further in his remarks, Ayatollah Khamenei stressed that the scientific achievements of Iranian youngsters in various fields are the prelude to greater accomplishments.

"Our young generation today, like a mountain-climber who is at the foot of a mountain, should continue its advancement toward the peak of scientific achievements with firm will and increasing knowledge. This noble aspiration and objective can be accomplished through long-term planning as well as incessant efforts and perseverance," he pointed out.

In conclusion, the Leader of the Islamic Republic emphasized that the favorable conditions for scientific activities existing in the country today owe their existence to the struggle and self-sacrifice of those young people who sacrificed their lives in the Sacred Defense era. Ayatollah Khamenei called for commemorating and expressing gratitude to those legends of jihad and martyrdom.
