The Judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi and a group of high-ranking officials and personnel of the Judiciary called on the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei on Thursday, June 28.
The meeting, which was held on the 26th martyrdom anniversary of 72 high-ranking Iranian officials and sincere devotees of the Islamic Revolution, including the former chief justice Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammad Beheshti, was also attended by the honorable families of the martyrs.
In an address to the audience, the Leader stated that the efficiency and competence of the Judiciary plays a very significant role in accomplishing the objectives of the Islamic system. He added that the establishment of security from social and economic and moral and reputational aspects and taking firm and admonitory action against lawbreakers in an indiscriminative manner are among the most important duties of the judicial system.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the administration of justice and restoring violated rights, promoting the rule of law and standing up to those making illogical demands and the opportunist elements as well as the preservation of security and peace of mind in society as among other duties of the Judiciary.
"What is a prerequisite for economic security is taking firm action against those characterized by economic corruption, and it is not right to assume that taking action against these corrupt individuals will give rise to economic insecurity in society," Ayatollah Khamenei told the Judiciary officials.
He stated that taking legal action against few economically corrupt individuals will create a secure atmosphere for the economic activities of those who are involved in sound economic activities and who form the majority of society.
Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic pointed out that great significance should also be attached to reputational security as well as moral and cultural security.
"The reputation and dignity of the members of society should not be jeopardized, and individuals should not become subjected to interrogation and become the target of accusations and allegations without any reasons, since this is contrary to the religious law and the tenets of Islam," the Leader remarked.
Ayatollah Khamenei also expressed his appreciation for the sincere endeavors of the chief and officials and personnel of the Judiciary. He noted that if people look to the Judiciary for support and feel that they can count on the Judiciary, and if the general public hold this positive attitude, then it can be said that the Judiciary has accomplished its objectives and has been successful.
"But if there is not such a positive attitude on the part of the general public, then more efforts should be made by the Judiciary," Ayatollah Khamenei observed. He added that it is likely that many measures have already been taken by the Judiciary, but the people's contentment with these measures is the criteria by which the Judiciary's performance should be judged.
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader of the Islamic Republic stated that taking firm action against those violating the law, especially the ones who are in the judicial system, will reassure the general public and raise their morale.
"Earnest supervision over the Judiciary's performance, the utilization of modern technologies, appropriate planning and acting systematically will help to further reassure the general public," the Leader told the audience.
Ayatollah Khamenei also referred to the present coordination between the three government branches as a precious opportunity. He added that any one of the three government branches is expected to perform its duties in a serious manner and also in harmony and coordination with the other government branches.
Further in his statements, the Leader of the Islamic Republic paid tribute to and honored the memory of the 72 high-ranking Iranian officials, especially the former chief justice Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammad Beheshti, who had been martyred 26 years ago. He noted that the only fault of those martyred officials was their competence and efficiency.
"The Tir-7th incident was a significant and historic event because, on the one hand, it unmasked the criminal and wicked face of the enemies of the Islamic Revolution and, on other hand, it displayed the strong foundations of the Islamic system," the Leader told the audience.
The Judiciary chief Ayatollah Mahmoud Hashemi-Shahroudi, also speaking at the meeting, commemorated the Tir-7th martyrs and described Ayatollah Beheshti as the architect of the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Ayatollah Hashemi-Shahroudi further presented a report about the measures that have recently been taken by the Judiciary.
