The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Khamenei in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the accompanying delegation described the bonds between the two countries as very strong and added: "The late Hafez al-Assad established a strong foundation for Iran-Syria relations, and the two countries' friendly relations still continue despite various efforts to undermine these relations."
Addressing the Syrian president, Ayatollah Khamenei said: "You also continue the path of the late Hafez al-Assad and the close ties between the two countries are the result of continuing this path."
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution described the position of Iran and Syria as more prominent compared to the past and reiterated: "Iran and Syria have made great achievements in regional and international arenas."
Ayatollah Khamenei also expressed hopes that the Syrian President's trip to Tehran and the agreements reached between the two countries will lead to further expansion of relations between the two countries in all fields.
In this meeting which was also attended by Dr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad stressed that the ties between Iran and Syria were strong. He also said he was delighted to attend the meeting in a situation where great achievements have been made by Islamic resistance movements in Lebanon and the position of Hamas has been further strengthened in Palestine while the enemies are in a much weaker position compared to the past.
