In a meeting with thousands of Basij and members of the Islamic Republic's Guards Corps, Ayatollah Khamenei the Leader of the Islamic Revolution likened Basij to an immaculate tree. He said Basij was the result of Imam Khomeini's (r.a.) innovation and added: "The Islamic Revolution is always in need of Basij members and faithful, motivated, and virtuous youth."
Ayatollah Khamenei said that the Revolution has been the result of the positive response that people from various backgrounds made to the call of their magnanimous Imam. "During the epic of the Sacred Defense, this great movement was revitalized, and all motivation, dynamism, and faith flew onto the battlefields in the form of Basij. Like an immaculate tree, this great nationwide phenomenon set its roots in the vast land of Iran and was kept alive," he stated.
His Eminence referred to commitment, faith, and motivation as the essence of Basij and said: "The praiseworthy ability and innovation of Imam Khomeini (r.a.) was that he managed to turn the holy motivation and commitment of the Iranian nation into an organization."
The Leader also described the Guards Corps as consisting of a number of Basiji pioneers and reiterated: "Thanks to Basij and Basij members, the Islamic Revolution never felt weak even in the early years of the war, and the enthusiastic presence of young Basij members, constantly filled hearts with hope and grandeur."
"The youth must be acquainted with the realities of the Sacred Defense so that the value of Basij members is further appreciated," he said, urging the young and teenage Basij members to familiarize themselves with the lives of martyrs and the valorous deeds of Basij members of the Sacred Defense Era.
The Leader of the Islamic Revolution referred to the inherent opposition of international monopolistic and domineering powers against the Iranian nation's independence and justice-seeking efforts and added: "The outsiders are increasingly broadcasting their anti-Iranian and anti-Islamic propaganda, but the vigilant Iranian nation and the conscious youth of the country have formed an impenetrable barrier against the enemies."
His Eminence described reliance on God and national capacities as the most important causes of the Islamic Republic's resistance and progress, further adding: "By Allah's favor, all groups of people from different backgrounds have always been present when they were needed."
His Eminence described familiarity with religious principles and strengthening one's faith as factors contributing to the daily progress and development of Basij and its persistence among future generations and added: "The youth are the future hopes of the country." He said: "Among the youth, those who are the most faithful and enthusiastic offer the greatest hope to the Iranian nation, and Basij members are indeed among such youth."
At the end of this meeting, those present on the occasion performed their sunset and evening prayers led by Ayatollah Khamenei.
