While meeting with participants at the Congress of the Role of Shi’a Islam in the Emergence and Promotion of Islamic Sciences, this morning (Saturday), Ayatollah Khamenei—the Leader of the Islamic Revolution—mentioned that the most important needs of the Muslim World today consist of union and alliance, as well as serious movement toward scientific advancement in all areas.
Expressing his gratitude towards the officials and organizers of the Congress, particularly Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi, the Leader of the Revolution opened up by saying: “Today, every effort which contributes to increased mutual recognition among different Islamic groups and communities, and increased awareness on strengths of every community, is valuable, and helps promote unity and alliance.”
He referred to the role of Shi’ism throughout history, in the promotion of Islamic and natural sciences, and he reminded his audience: “These invaluable works and masterpieces should be introduced to the Islamic Ummah, because they bring about pride and unity.”
The leader of the revolution further stressed: “One of the most important, and highly needed matters in the Muslim World today is the scientific advancement and serious movement in this arena.
Ayatollah Khamenei indicated the main reason for the Muslim World being under domination, its stagnation in sciences and added: “After many centuries of scientific stagnation, the West could increase its wealth, and scientific, military, political and promotional power by using scientific advancements of the Muslim World, and could finally create the actual situation in Islamic countries through colonization."
Referring to the Western powers’ desire for hegemony over Islamic countries, and compliance of many rulers of these countries with international bullies, Ayatollah Khamenei emphasized: “This situation must change by the medium of Islamic countries’ scientific advancement; the Muslim World can stand at the peak of human civilization again."
While adding that the movement of philosophy and rational sciences should accelerate, Ayatollah Khamenei stated: “The West has extended their scope of philosophy to include different aspects of political and social issues. We also need to follow this model because Islamic philosophy is deeper and stronger compared to Western philosophy.
Mentioning an increased awakening in the Muslim World, and an increased tendency towards Islam, he reiterated: “Today, the youth around the world have many questions they hope to answer within the framework of Islam. Hence, the scientific movement in the Muslim World must accelerate; and the Islamic Ummah must reach the utmost of its scientific and civil authority, so the enemies of Islam and the U.S. politicians cannot give orders to the rulers of Islamic countries.”
